Five, four, three, two, one! The shot clock runs out as Grand View women’s guard Jaci Stumpf shoots the ball for a three-point shot and drains it! The Vikings found out as they stepped on the court for warm-ups that the Eagle’s star post Luci Sarcone was unable to play due to an injury. Both teams were physical and the referees were letting the ladies play their game. Senior center Maddie Westergard was battling hard below the hoop the whole night. The two teams made the first half of the game a nail-biter by keeping a close score of 37-36 to end the first half. The home game was not one that the Vikings could afford Wednesday night as they are getting closer to the end of their season and being able to qualify for the conference tournament. …show more content…
Within the last minute and a half the Vikings had possession of the ball and shot up a quick shot only to miss it. As Avila took possession they turned the ball over before making it back to their half of the court. As Vikings stole the ball and with 10 seconds left attempted to shoot the ball for one last shot the ball bounced right off the rim and back out into Avila’s hands. The Eagles quickly set up a play to win the game with 3.5 seconds to spare. “I think we need to work on finishing strong when we are in tough situations,” said Bailee Arnburg, sophomore guard of the Vikings team. Saturday February 11th will be the next Viking home game as they host Evangel whom they beat December 2nd on Evangel’s home court.
