In the late 1700s this lovely land of ours that we now call Point Pleasant, West Virginia was still being explored. This area was luxurious hunting ground for the many Native American tribes that resided in the area. Point Pleasant was a wonderful place for recourses that the Shawnees needed, such as the river. the river in its self provided food, water, and transportation. The native Americans loved this land. When the white man started to invade and take over there land. the Shawnee had to do something to try to save and protect there land from the new settlers. This is what all started the battle of Point Pleasant. On October 10th 1774 Andrew Lewis took around 1,100 men to battle with him to defeat the tribes lead my Chief Cornstalk. at the end of the battle 230 Native Americans were killed and about 50 Virginians.
Many people believe that this bloody battle of Point Pleasant was actually the first battle of the Revolutionary War. People believe that if the Shawnee was not took from there power of the land and won the battle, they may have became allies with the British. She states that the Battle of Point Pleasant was not in fact the first of the Revolutionary War but the last of the American Colonial War. The battle was between Native Americans and the Virginians, thus has nothing to do with Britain. The Revolutionary War didn’t begin till the battle of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts on April 19th 1775. At Lexington the British Attacked about 70 some Massachusetts men that where untrained unlike the great British. The British won at Lexington but lost at Concord. This was the first time that British boots hit American soil there for this has to be the first battle of the Revolutionary
