Many people have questioned if video games are the reason why children are so aggressive. “The psychological group reports that more than 90% of children in the united states play video games. Among kids between the ages 12 and 17, the number rises to 97%. More important, 85% or more of video games on the market contain some form of violence.” Stated CNN. Even the games that you think are benign have some sort of battling in them. Are these games teaching children anything good? We will look at different kinds of research to see if children’s aggressiveness has anything to do with the playing of video games. Some social scientist came up with some results that show that video games don’t influence children to have aggressive behavior. Whitney DeCamp, an associates professor of sociology at Western Michigan University says that there is no evidence that shows that there is no relationship between video games and violent behavior in children. If there is, it’s an insignificant behavior between the two. There have been some studies where kids show some sort of aggressiveness but according to Whitney DeCamp that isn’t enough to determine whether or not it has anything to do with violent video games. It can be predisposition. He came to the conclusion that playing video games, no matter how bloody or violent did not predict violent behavior.
