A summation of the comments posted regarding Value Based Purchasing (VBP) is being done and includes; a definition of what VBP is, who oversees VBP, and the role the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) education plays in VBP collectively. VBP is a transition from fee for services to a service based on outcomes initiatives for patient care improvements. These essentials focus on clinical scholarship, informational technology utilization, interprofessional collaboration, and population health management (American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), 2006). Through application of these essentials, teamwork, collaboration, integration of systems and technology applications can be combined with the organizational goals, patient outcomes, reduction of waste, and quality improvements that are fiscally responsible (Aroh, Colella, Douglas, & Eddings, 2015). By utilizing the educational essentials in every aspect of the healthcare setting, the DNP can recognize what while quality comes as a cost, the return can be beneficial over the course of time, which may lead to bigger returns in VBP (Waxman, …show more content…
