In recent years, usability has been an important attributes of software quality. Thus, it is very desirable for software developers to reach high usable quality in their system. But the concept of usability itself is still ambiguous and informal, although numerous definition and models of usability has been given out. Neither researcher, developers, nor standards have reached consensus with regards to the concept of usability (A. Abran).So, the main problem in evaluating usability is that there is not one absolute model that can be use to evaluate every aspect of this quality attribute. Since each system will have different usability metrics that it needs to satisfy, it could be a task to determine which of these many definition and models of usability will fit to evaluate our system.
How much differences are each of these models and their definition apart from the other? From my findings, these models and definitions of usability differs in many ways, some of them differ in terms of the basic definition of usability. For example, ISO 9241- 11 defines usability as “the extent to which a product can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use” (International Organization for Standardization). Another said, usability is defined as “The ease with which a user can learn to operate, prepare inputs for and interpret outputs of a system or component” (Institute of Electrical and Electronics…
