There are both internal and external barriers to receiving treatment. Internal barriers consist of emotions that prevent individuals from obtaining services. These emotions include guilt, shame, and embarrassment brought on by the stigma of addiction that society portrays. External factors of addiction include limitations such as access to treatment, insurances, employment and many others. When thinking about all the limitations to treatment I feel really saddened. I cannot imagine what it feels like to have the courage and say that I need/want help and not being able to access treatment because of location or money. That is a very difficult position to be
