Originating from the 1980’s, this strategy is categorized as an “entity-based theory”, because it maintains a focus on individuals, and emphasizes the importance of emotions and values (Marion and Gonzales, 2014, p. 156). Although initially used in a political context, transformational leadership has been widely adapted, demonstrating a correlation between the “roles of leadership and followership” (Northouse, 2016, p.162).
