Leadership has dramatically evolved over the last few decades’. From the early stages of characterizing only personality type traits, leadership has evolved to a more dynamic and fluid process that surrounds its self into a more comprehensive environment. While many leadership theories compare and contrast one another, the immersion of transformational leadership has truly projected the thinking of leadership into new forms of logic and context.
Transformational Leadership
A large amount of research has been done over the past thirty years to analyze transformational leadership and transactional leadership. James MacGregor Burns (1978) introduced this concept and theorized the concept of transformational leadership and transactional leadership. The concept was really quite basic as defined by Burns. According to Burns, transforming leadership is a process in which "leaders and followers help each other to advance to a higher level of morale and motivation". He recognized two models: "transforming leadership" and "transactional leadership". According to Burns, the transforming leadership approach creates substantial change in people and organizations. Previous research, defined transactional leaders; as leaders who used transactions or social exchanges to guide or motivate followers to work toward goals in exchange for rewards.
