If La Jetee were to be taken in place in the United States rather than Paris, I believe that the film would’ve focused more on the War than time traveling. Making this film around the 1960s was a good choice because of how past history makes a bigger impact on people compared to movies made in present time. The timing of the film, makes it easier to create an illusion of cinematic movement due to the lack of technology back then. La Jetee had used still images throughout the film, creating a bigger impact on the viewer. Throughout the film, there are instances when the man travels in time and reverts back to the present after meeting the woman of his memory. Although he is time traveling to meet the woman, it looks as if he doesn’t know if he met the woman in the past to the present. The main character’s time traveling seems surreal that I question whether the time traveling is all a dream or reality. Furthermore, in the beginning of the film, the main character sees his own death as a child, in which I question if the man had existed at all. Not to mention, the whole time travel experiment is a paradox, this is because of the choices he made in the past (while time traveling) can put him in a different position at the present
