There is never a day when I don't look at myself in amazement. That is because I am still surprised that I did not quit the Phi Theta Kappa officer team. Even though I keep myself from having emotional breakdowns on campus, there were days I questioned why I am still an officer. If anybody told me that I would be a chapter officer of an internationally proclaimed honor society, I would smile while laughing hysterically in my head. I barely could talk in front of a crowd, let alone lead an entire chapter.…

Why are you applying for this position? I think the new member education program is essential for the transitioning new sister in determining if Delta Zeta is the right fit for her. If the process goes the way it is supposed to, it will make the young women excited to wake up and call herself a sister in our chapter. For myself, it’s crucial to be a part of changes that influenced yourself in some way. For just going through the process myself, I think the program was great; however, I want to be a part of the team to make it even better.…

Before embarking on my high school journey at Sayreville War Memorial High School I was told to join clubs. Sophomore year I attended the September SADD meeting. SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions and it is a club that encourages students to confront the daily risks of living in the world today. The advisor, Ms. Corrales, would always pick an issue in society for each meeting and provide us with the best tools to go about handling the issue. During my sophomore year, she invited me to the NJ Regional Conference with our executive board.…

FFA as a Discourse Community In many ways-specifically,communicating with people in this generation-living by the mantra “out with the old and in with the new” can heavily influence the way people respond to information. We live in a fast pace world where “the next big thing” has already passed you by by the time you take your next breath. With the ever changing trend in ways to communicate with people, discourse communities like Future Farmers of America (FFA) look for ways to communicate with their members effectively. While there are many classic or traditional ways to communicate with its member that are effective, modern FFA is immensely improved when it utilizes all forms of communications both traditional as well as modern technology.…

Communication is of essential importance in any workplace, relationship, and gathering, which creates efficient leadership within a group. Towards the closing of my junior year, I was elected to be one of the few student board members to my school’s National Honor Society. Achieving board member status for this renowned society of students is an eye-opening experience. Adapting to the responsibility that a highly respected board member carries of such a prestigious group truly distinguishes differences between the ordinary member and those who collectively lead the organization. From coordinating induction ceremonies for incoming members, to communicating with local providers for community service events, being a representative of…

After participating in Date Auction and attending other VSA events such as VSOUL's potluck and UNO VSA's paper lantern night, I am motivated in connecting with and learning more about other VSA's in the Gulf Coast, and actively participating in creating a community between each VSA. The best part about being in TUVA is the amount of doors that have opened from meeting the vast Vietnamese community that exists in Louisiana alone. I envision TUVA to grow in the VSA communities in Louisiana by encouraging general members to step out of the Tulane bubble and participate in the numerous events held by VSA. I believe TUVA's presence should continue to cultivate, which means E-board members and general members should create connections with other…
