1. My team members responded to my team leadership effectively and therefore, the outcome was positive. They mentioned that I displayed all the qualities of a team leader, as I was very effective and successful in motivating my team members and getting all the necessary work done before the deadlines. I was able to delegate the responsibilities of the assignment thoroughly and in a way that all my team members were happy based on their respected skills. The first order of business was that my job was to gather the team at a time that was convenient to everyone within the group. I used a whiteboard to mention the daily agenda for the team meetings to ensure that everything was completed accordingly. During this time, I was also able to have …show more content…
The particular management skills and theories that I found the most valuable as a team leader was a motivating theory called Theory Y. This theory stated that people are motivated if they are happy and willing to work. I wanted to make sure that everyone was happy with what they were doing and that they were satisfied. Another way to improve my team’s performance was to give a thorough feedback with information on how to improve. This would not only develop my team’s performance, but would enhance the behaviors of my team members as well. Another skill that I used was active listening because good communication is key to success. Every successful group has good team leaders that engage with their team members. Furthermore, another theory that I found valuable was the goal setting theory because it directs and energizes people’s behavior. My team members and I set up goals that were challenging, but attainable. This process allowed us to create a life goal plan that was suitable for every member of the team and made them motivated. As a team, we came up with SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time …show more content…
There were myriad challenges that I faced as a team leader. Many of trials that I encountered were due to getting the group together and making sure that everyone was understanding the information and tasks that were being given. It was a very challenging task to make sure that everything was getting done however, I tried to be patient and considerate. Some of the main challenges I faced was being respected and liked by my group: It is crucial to form a bond with the group and be someone they can depend on. Being a team leader does not necessarily mean to just bark orders and tell others what to do. On the other hand, you have to be authoritative sometimes when the work is not done at the right time. Another challenge was making sure that everyone was available at the team meetings. This was hard task because situations always came up and people were not always able to attend. If someone was not able to make it to the meetings we usually face timed/skyped them and or we recorded ourselves and sent them the video so they can watch it when they are

The understanding and comprehension of what type of leader you want to be depends solely upon how you influence the people around your leadership. Understanding your team’s weaknesses and strengths, then using those weaknesses and strengths to the best of your team’s ability. Evolution of your leadership methods must continue and never become stagnant, recognition of all the people evolving in your team must be accounted for (Murty, 2014). Delegation and working together must be utilized in a proficient manner. In the play Macbeth a statement is made about him, “For brave Macbeth—well he deserves that name—Disdaining Fortune, with his brandished steel, Which smoked with bloody execution, Like valor’s minion carved out his passage. Till he faced the slave; Which nev’r shook hands, or bade farewell to him, Till he unseamed him from the nave to th’ chops, And fixed his head upon our battlements.” (Shakespeare, n.d. Act 1, Scene 2, lines 16–23). False accusations will lead to individuals either standing firm with your leadership or abandoning all hope. These type of individuals that gain valuable respect by either standing with you leadership methods or suggesting a new leadership style will help your leadership evolve and grow into something more. Although if you have people around you that lose all hope in your methods and never try to learn valuable…

Having a clear vision of what you want to achieve as is vital because a journey without a clear vision will leave teams feeling lost. Techniques that demonstrate care for the team would include listening well to what everyone has to say so that everyone’s ideas are heard, and asking good questions so that one is aware of what is going on. On October 13, 2016, I attended the Team Communication Workshop Part II: Handling Difficult People and Situations, presented by Dr. Joanna Wolfe from the Global Communication Center. It was a workshop about how to handle working on a group project with people who might be difficult to work with and how to deal with uncomfortable situations in a professional manner. Dr. Wolfe noted in the beginning that based on the research that she and other GCC staff have conducted, women and minorities in general tend to face problems especially in scenarios where another group member dominates the other group members and the group project in general. The workshop was interactive, so we were presented with different scenarios that we may face in our careers and asked to rate the different kinds of reactions based on how effective we…
