5.4.1 Theoretical Implications
The determination that a strong positive correlation exists between both task-oriented and relation oriented leadership behaviour and QS firm’s performance. It was suggested that the leadership behaviour is a predictor of QS firm’s performance. This was supported by the literature that leadership behaviour is an effective way to enhancing the employee and the organisational performance (Larsson & Vinberg, 2010; Yukl, 2012). The findings of this study not only supported by previous research, but adding to the knowledge that task-oriented and relation oriented leadership behaviour correlate positively with the QS firm’s organisational performance. To generate a favourable organisational outcome, there are seven key imperatives of the leaders needed to be incorporated into leadership theories, including cognitive, social, personal, political, technological, financial, and staffing imperatives (Zaccaro and Klimoski, 2001). Therefore, the leadership behaviour acts as the mediator in enhancing the organisational performance. 5.4.2 Practical Implications There are potential practical implications that result from the determination that a relationship exists between both task-oriented and relation oriented leadership behaviour and performance of QS firms. The following are the implication arises: a) Malaysians prefer a balanced type of the leadership. To create a balance between the task-oriented leadership behaviour and the relation oriented leadership behaviour, the QS firms should involve more female staff in the management. The participative leadership will result better in the performance (Silong and Hassan, 2009). The result of the survey conducted by Silong and Hassan (2009) reveals that participative leadership approach results in more effective leadership, the example of participative leadership behaviour including democratic, people-oriented and working in teams. Interestingly, the results of this research suggest that both of the leadership behaviour was correlated with the organisations’ performance. Impressively, the relation oriented leadership have the strongest strength of this relationship. However, from the findings, the task-oriented leadership was the leadership practising in the QS firms. Apart from that, to achieve the better performance, the QS firm should enhance in the relation oriented leadership. The suggestion to enhance the task-oriented leadership behaviour is by the way appointing more female as the managing director or involving in the management team. The QS industry should open more chance for the female to become the leader. The female is granted by the maternal instinct, the female is more on the relation oriented behaviour as consistent with the findings indicated. Thus, the balance between the task and relation leader behaviour can be achieved and lead the company to a better performance. b) To increase the relation oriented leadership behaviour, the leader should enhance more on the recognising. In the characteristics of relation oriented leadership behaviour, the characteristic of recognising has obtained the lowest mean score. …show more content…
This result indicates that the MD of the QS firms given a little recognising to their staff. To raise the score for the relation oriented leadership behaviour, the MD should enhance in this recognising characteristics. Giving more praise, reward, and acknowledgement regarding their follower’s contribution is necessary to bond a good relationship between the leader and follower. An appropriate recognising can create the sense of belonging, which their contribution be respected. The enhancement on recognising is not just to increase the relation score, but in implicitly, it raises the spirit of the follower, thus raise up their performance. …show more content…
In the context of organisation performance, it was suggested that the QS firms should reinforce in their innovation. Basically, the QS firm could initiate the innovation on their information technology (IT) management. The usage of the IT could help the QS to produce their work in a faster way compared with the conventional method. The IT system for construction industry such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) can provide the better visualisation to the design of the building, which the essential information is well managed in this system. The example of the specialised software designed for the QS consultancy such as Buildsoft, Masterbill, CostX, Win QS, Estimator, VICO, RIPAC, QSPlus, BinaLink, Glodon, Innovaya, Altas, Autodesk, and Open Sources
