September 11th, 2010 will always be remembered as the tragic event heard around the world. It was the day terrorists invaded American airplanes in order to create multiple attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. These attacks took the lives of about 2,500 people, including 230 civilians that were aboard the airplane that crashed in Virginia. These attacks will be in our hearts forever, the effects have prolonged the America throughout history to this day. 9/11 caused more than a decade of war that’s still in effect, increased security, and racial stereotypes.

But back to the late 1990’s it was considered almost ridiculous to have enhanced airport security because no threat really presented itself. At one time airports even let box cutters if they were under legal blade size of four inches. But after the terrorists attacks that took place, airport security endured extreme measures to never let that caliber of a tragedy ever happen again. Thus the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was born to “institute new security procedures and managing screening at every commercial airport checkpoint in the country (Lowdown)”. They also commenced to create a list for certain individuals that oppose danger called the no fly list. “By 2007, it had already accumulated a database of over 700,000 names, according to the Department of Justice (Lowdown)”. The growth of technology resulted in an increase of government encroachment to citizens private lives mostly with covert networks with the use of web surveillance and phones.
