A Morning That Changed The World On September 11, 2001 at 8:46 a.m. American Airlines flight 11 hit the north side of the north tower, traveling at a speed of 490 miles per hour. Less than thirty minutes after, flight 175 hit the south tower, killing everyone on board and hundreds in the building (“9/11: Timeline). Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked a total of four planes and killed nearly 3,000 people during their attacks on The World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the attempted crash into the U.S. Capitol (“How The 9/11”). Firefighters, businessmen and women, and bystanders willing to run through smoke and fire to save complete strangers is what America should be known for, for having people who would give up their lives for a nation they love. The events that occurred on the morning of September eleventh were a call for Americans to come together and defend their country. The results of the attacks still affect the country today, 9/11 was the most impactful event in American history because it influenced laws regarding immigration, airports, and privacy, it brought the nation together, and it greatly affected the economy. The event that occurred on this day caused the stock market to close for four trading days, that has not happened since the Great Depression. It also resulted in the Dow falling 7.13%. The biggest economic impact of 9/11 was the debt crisis. America fell into an enormous amount of debt which has not yet been payed off. The War on Terror, an attack organized by President Bush to find and bring justice to Osama Bin Laden, has costs more than $1.5 trillion. This does not include the amount of money spent on the military, which was an additional $618 billion. Without the War on Terror U.S. debt would have been $16.5 trillion.
