As people adapt to the behavior, it is a good procedure to manage time and constant repeat of the behavior to prevent from going back to old habits. At the end by having confident and persistently acting on the behavior, the health behavior will become tolerable and maintainable.
The first stage of change consists of precontemplation, this stage people become resistant to taking action towards correcting their health behavior. At this point in my behavior I have accepted change and improvements to better my health concerns. By taking action I have noticed improvements towards my psychological behavior and became more knowledgeable on outcome concerns that I may have. Consciousness raising provides process change towards precontemplation by adding awareness about the causes, consequences, and cures towards my behavior. I am gradually approaching the action stage as I have been pursuing my chosen health behavior through adapting time to moderately work on my behavior. I can say that I have not past the six months of changing specific lifestyles but I have become more informed and showed progress. Contingency management was one of the process changes that guided me to take steps towards a healthier direction; by directing myself towards healthier outcomes of running by repeating the benefits of running to get the same responses. Maintenance is the stage of change as people produce specific modifications in their lifestyles and are in the process of working to prevent relapse (Glanz et al, pg100). I myself have yet to advance to this stage of change because I have not been running for at least six month. As people start a health behavior change, relapse can be a concern because the behavior is not yet solidified in his/her daily life; there for we need more exposure and self-efficacy to better adapt to the behavior. Stimulus control assists the process of change by removing unwanted cues that influences unhealthy behaviors and adds healthy cues that provides stimuli that supports change and decreases the risk for relapse. In the final stage of termination, people have the point of not being tempted and showing increased self-efficacy. The termination stage is the stage that people prefer
