The terrorist attacks on New York in 9/11 caused a controversy in America and caused many people to ask why, where as they were seeing the result of events that happened years before. Tension in the Middle East existed since the birth of Jesus Christ, with many nations trying to claim the Holy Land, due to misleading promises and greed, America stepped into the picture causing people to take sides in a war between Jews and Arabs for the Holy Land. America joined sides with the Jews against the Arabs making Israel untouchable, this caused hatred to break out around extreme Muslim groups including Osama bin Laden. When the Soviet Union invaded parts of Afghanistan, which in turn called on Muslim warriors who called themselves the Mujahedeen to fight and the Soviet Union. This rebel group was funded by the US in there plight to end communism in Afghanistan as part of the Cold War. When the war was over, the Soviet Union had left Afghanistan the Mujahedeen broke up into splinter groups such as the Taliban and Al-Qaeda which later lead to the 9/11 attacks. The definition of terrorism has been a big issue for people all around the world with groups such as the UN not having any definition for terrorism, this can lead to confusion to what is terrorism and what isn’t. I define terrorism: the unofficial or unauthorised use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
