9/11 Terrorism Research Paper

Sadly, terrorism continued to occur almost 60 years later in 2001. Not only did 9/11 occur, but there was a chemical war on America's hands as well. The anthrax attacks occurred shortly after 9/11 in September, eighteen victims of the attacks were identified between October 3 and November 20. This was caused by dried spores of B. anthracis that were sent through letters by the public mail. Five people are known to have died from anthrax and The 2001 Anthrax Deception: The Case for a Domestic Conspiracy by Graeme Macqueen states that “at least 22 people were thought to have become infected, 11 with cutaneous anthrax and 11 with inhalation anthrax” (Macqueen 23). After Robert Stevens died, the FBI opened a criminal investigation, identifying what caused his death and the new hypothesis that this was a “one-two punch” created by terrorists in America. Before his death, FBI proclaimed “ no one except the perpetrators knew before Oct. 3, 2001, that the attacks were in progress” (Macqueen 24). These investigations furthered the success of the FBI.As for the Duquesne Spy Ring, it resulted in reassured notions that there was not a huge German espionage network remaining within the US. With this spy ring being uncovered and the impending war, the FBI had a lot on their plate. This included investigating companies supplying defective war material and background checks. Also, the kept working to get rid of espionage and improved training to gather and analyze intelligence to give to policy makers.
