On the day September 18,2001 the first anthrax attack happened only one week after the attack on the twin towers. “The Anthrax attacks started on the east coast around Boston then traveled throughout the country.”(Alex Collins 1)The first guy died a couple days after and the world realized that anthrax was deadly and was coming for the country.”A terrorist attack in the United States on our home territory”(Alex Collins 2). A panic went off in every nook and cranny in the country. Most biomedical doctors did not know nor could understand what anthrax was as they had never seen anything like it. Until they heard the dispatch over the speakers and the call came in that said “Alert, Alert Man mid 30s opened mail found a white substance believed to be anthrax. 5217,5214,4152,7165 and al l hazmat techs to 1574 Lackland Blvd.” All of his co-workers and him ran out into the bay quickly put their gear on and got onto their respective trucks and ambulance.” If we got a threat we would respond but we would make sure everyone was away from the substance, if anyone possibly got contaminated with the substance. We had to set up a decontamination station(which was even before they tested the substance at all). Then they would again but on Class A suits and go back into the hot zone and shower and scrub them which was a big long process to decontaminate you if you become incontact with it”(Alex Collins 15). They all raced to the house and as they arrived the wife of the guy ran out of the house screaming and hollering everywhere about her husband and how he is going to die. “A lot of the times the family was more freaked out than the person who is possibly affected”(Alex Collins 17).They all asked where he is and she said inside by the dining room table. They told her that she had to be with the medics as they have to make sure she wasn't affected and have to make sure that she does not have any of the symptoms and treat her.” I still to this day remember this lady and how mad she was over how we were handling the situation. Also, she was freaking out enough for her and her husband. A lot of the times I see family freaking out but with her it wasn’t freaking out she was having a full blown panic attack”(Alex Collins 23).They ran inside, threw the door open and found him sitting at the dinner table.
