Many have written reviews and documents about the Summer Food Service Program and what it is all about and how it is absolutely free for low income students to eat during the summer and staying active. Florida, is a state that has received much media attention when it comes to getting the word out on the Summer Food Service Program and helping to expand on participants. The Florida Initiative, built of child-nutrition activists, sought to build public and private partnerships to sponsor more sites where children can receive free meals (Sandham, 1997 p. 1). Florida’s education commissioner, Frank T. Brogan also stated, “We don’t want any eligible child in Florida to go hungry” Sandham (2006), and that is the attitude that all fifty states thriving to acheive. Never leave a child behind to starve for three months. A program that is providing free food and physical and educational development should have the participation of every low-income student in the state, no exceptions. This program was established almost five decades ago and they are still trying to get the word out and get full participation. These bigger organizations and departments are giving away free money for smaller non-profit organizations just to help low-income students in their surroundings because sometimes it takes a village to raise a child.
