There were three times periods. 1850 - 1900, 1900 -1950, & 1950 – our current time. The peoples groups changed over time. In the 1850 – 1900 time, you most likely had to use a train to travel for all people groups and this is during the Civil War. In the 1900 – 1950, this is after the Civil War & when railroads started to be used more. There were also little to none African Americans. Around the late 1930s, they used the railroads to transport goods to Corinth. Now from the 1950s – our current time, there are many different people groups. First off Corinth is a city in Mississippi was part of the Confederacy. The Confederacy was the 11 southern states that were not apart of the Union from 1860 – 61. The Confederacy would need the railroads for a lot of different things. They needed to ship troops, arms, food, ordnance all around the whole Confederacy. The Union could use the Corinth railroads too. So they came up with a plan to take the crossing point and then take the Confederates benefits of using the railroads. The Union would be able to stop the Confederacy from transporting any goods or materials during the war. It would make it ten times harder on the Union. In a few of my sources it talked about some important generals that were in the Civil War and apart of the Confederacy. General Henry W. Halleck said the first quote.
