The Shichon breed cannot be traced back to any one breeder because it is the crossing of two purebred breeds and this is a fairly common. The Bichon Frise is bred from the Barbet and the Standard Poodle, and was possibly created as early as the 1300’s in France. The first Bichon Frise was brought to the United States in 1955. The Shih-Tzu is known as one of the oldest breeds of dogs. They can be traced all the way back to ancient China. Some say that the Shih-Tzu is a cross between Pekingese and Lhasa Apso. Shih Tzu dogs have been in existence since 800 BC.

Like all other dogs, they need to be fed 2 times a day and always need water. They do not have health problems until later in their life; some of the problems include cataracts, hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, patellar luxation, respiratory problems, and portosystemic shunt.

It is best to train shichon when they are puppies. They are very smart but a little difficult to train. When training you will need to be patient because they do not listen to anger they respond better to treats and love. It is also difficult to housebreak them when they are older.
