The Second Amendment “Overall, some of the most heavily-armed states have very low violent crime rates, and vice versa” (The Truth). All across America, there are many states that have minimal crime rates, in spite of their extensive populations, that possess various types of firearms. The Second Amendment guarantees the right to possess firearms. The Second Amendment is a part of the United States Bill of Rights, which was ratified in 1791 and added to the Constitution. The Second Amendment states that “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (United States Constitution). All United States citizens have the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution has had a positive impact on America, because it protects our personal freedom, personal safety, and it is a source of national pride. “United States citizens have the right to bear arms for the purpose of self-defense” (The Truth). Many Americans have a strong opinion about the Second Amendment. The federal government violates the Constitution when it tries to deny its citizens the ability to possess firearms.
