The Purpose Of The Second Amendment

The second amendment of the constitution states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The constitution was created in 1789 and revised in 1992. The purpose of the second amendment is for people to protect themselves, but a great deal of people are abusing the purpose. America has had way too many mass shootings and accidents which resulted in many deaths. If the constitution is a set of laws and laws were established to keep people safe, is it truly doing its job? To continue, the second amendment means the people of America have the right to have a gun for the safekeeping of our country. This affects gun control policies by saying anyone can have a gun. If the government wanted to ban guns, they are taking away the country’s freedom.
