The Pros And Cons Of The Atomic Bomb

My overall view of the decision to drop the atomic bomb is that it should not have happened, mostly because the information that I learned supported them not to have to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima or Nagasaki. First of all I learned that they chose Hiroshima because it had not been bombed yet by fire bombs or anything; but all along they been having naval blockades and been firebombing Japan. The Japanese basically wanted to surrender. It’s been said that they have called surrender but no one wanted to announce it because they wanted to drop the bombs and the Japanese didn’t want to look weak. They have already been at war with allied powers great Brittan, France, and was about to have a war with Russia who could basically finish them off. This information surprised me on how war was only caused because people wanted power not for what was right. My role of group number 5 was to write an appropriate paper augmenting the facts that we should warn the Japanese about are atomic bombs. Than if the Japanese don’t surrender, we should demonstrate the power of one of our atomic bombs in an unpopulated area. My contribution to the project is that we needed a good writer and I believe that I am a good essay writer do to the grades I’ve got of essays and papers I’ve done in the past. How my role impacted the group as a whole is …show more content…
I believed they had no right to come and kill are people so I was with the go bomb them plan. Until I did research and learned that we didn’t have to bomb them because we were already firebombing them and had naval blockades on them. They were eventually going to surrender so now I feel like the united States are in the wrong for atomic bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki when does places weren’t necessarily

Source D, a pilot who led the attack on Pearl Harbor, spoke to the pilot who dropped the atomic bomb. Fuchida (Japanese pilot) told Tibbets (American pilot) that he “did the right thing” and that Japanese citizens intended to resist invasion “with sticks and stones if necessary.” The last reason that proves we were justified in dropping the bomb is the consequences if we did not. In Source G, a memoir of Henry L. Stimson, Stimson says that if we did not drop the bomb, the war probably would not have ended until “the latter part of 1946, at the earliest.”…

All in all, the atomic bombs were justified by bringing the United States control over Japan to be able to install better living conditions in Japan and shut down any ideas of future retaliation. On the other hand, some may argue it was morally wrong to drop the atomic bombs, though it was justified due to the necessity of the bombs for the rest of the world. While the deaths associated with the bombs are terrible, they were bound to happen. It just depended on who was getting killed and how long it took to kill them. Therefore, it was a necessity for the bombs “to be used on an enemy target” (Doc 1) to end the war and bring home millions of…

DBQ: Dropping the Atomic Bomb on Japan The decision President Truman had to make regarding dropping a fission bomb onto Japanese cities in order to end the war would have been too hard for most of us to handle. America was weary after 4 years of almost total war with Germany, Italy, and Japan and the war needed to end. At this point, Japan was alone and dragging its feet after many losses. From the history we know, the decision was justified as it ended a devastating war with no end in sight and it saved more lives than were lost.…

the Dropping the atomic bomb was the only correct decision for the United States because of casualties being less than what they would have if America had invaded, the brutality of Japanese towards the American POW, and the importance of intimidating Stalin. By dropping the Atomic bomb, the United States rightfully saved thousands of potential lives. After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the amount of Japanese lives lost totaled to 105,000. (Doc E)…

I agree with what you are saying. The lives of the Japanese people could have been saved and taken into more consideration. Dropping of the Atomic bomb was preventable, but I think when considering that it was to show power I can see why they did it. That doesn't make it right by any means, we need to consider all sides of situation before taking…

Was the atomic bomb use during WWII justified? Many arguments for both sides exist, and there is no clear right or wrong, as complex ethical choices and factors played large roles in the verdict. For example, several hundred Japanese civilians would be killed, but American POWs were being mistreated, or the dropping would potentially start an arms race, but other major conflicts would take place if nuclear weapons had not been used. Was Truman's decision to drop the bomb right? Truman may or may not have made the right decision, as there are numerous conflicting factors, including the impact of the bomb, reasons for punishment, and potential alternative solutions.…

The bombs should have never been made and should have never been dropped. There are other ways to stop the bombing in Japan. Like for instance, you don’t need an Atomic bomb to stop Japan, just would need kind words and words of an agreement like I said before. The other cities that were untouched should have just been raided by the troops and not the bombs. Bombs should have been our last resort.…

As it is essential to recognize that not only was Japan ready to surrender and were given no choice to modify its unconditional surrender. But also destroyed two cities which were limited in military value and had civilians out number Japanese troops, but also were destroyed simply fro power in politics between the U.S and the Soviet Union. The facts from the presidents administrators, secretary of war and even Truman’s chief of staff all stood together and stated that it was unethical, barbaric and abhorrent. Many historians have fought continuously over which was decision was right or wrong to choose, but most evidence indicates that it was the wrong thing to do morally. Furthermore, the bomb was used for several wrong reasons such as causing fear to both Soviet and Japanese governments, in order to put an end to the war and be capable of unconditionally place restrictions at both governments basically holding both countries hostage until their demands were…

First, I investigated the sources that were against the use of the bomb before the bomb was dropped including the intentions behind the bomb, and concerns from the Interim Committee . Then I looked at the evidence against the bomb after the bomb was dropped, including Henry Stimson’s concerns, and the horrific loss of Japanese life due to the bomb. It is interesting to see the difference between the worries before the bomb and after the bomb. The first document I looked at was Dropping the Atomic Bomb was Neither Necessary Nor Justifiable by Gar Alperovitz. In his essay he argues one of the reasonings for the use of the bomb was to scare the Soviets and to prevent an invasion of the Red Army in Manchuria.…

The Decision to Drop the Atomic Bombing in Japan In August 1945, the United States dropped two atomic bombs, causing major destruction and life threatening issues, over the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Everyone has their own take on what really happened and have their own perspective on controversies regarding the United States’ decision to drop the bombs. Perspectives that I will be discussing today are from three disciplines: scientific view (Leo Szilard), journalism view (Wilfred Bruchett), and historical view (a writer of an article called “The Decision to Drop the Bomb” and Bernard Feld’s article “Lessons from Hiroshima and Nagasaki”). Each have their own unique approach on the atomic bomb and it’s affects.…

The atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. Even today, many debate whether or not the US should have dropped the atomic bombs. Not only have the bombs killed many Japanese, the bombs also caused radiation sickness. However, these bombs were effective in that they ended one of the most costly wars the world has seen. Although the results of the atomic bombs were devastating to Japan, the US was justified in dropping the bombs because it swiftly ended the war, which effectively saved more lives than it costed.…

In my opinion, United States were right on dropping the bombs. Although hundreds of innocent Japanese lives were lost, millions of American and Japanese lives could have been killed. An article on www.militarythistorynow.com before the decision to drop the bombs, there was Operation Downfall. Operation Downfall was the mission where US soldier would storm onto Japanese homeland but never happened. The article states, “Had the invasion not been preempted by the dropping of the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, almost all agree that the campaign would have stood as the bloodiest chapter of the Second World War, adding as much as an additional 10 million dead”.…
