Do concealed weapons pose a threat to society? Being able to carry a concealed handgun has created a conundrum that has been debated over for quite some time. The proponents argue that concealed guns can be an effective means to limit crime while the opponents claim that concealed weapons can cause an increase in gun related violence. Despite the different views from both sides, adults should have the right to be able to carry a concealed handgun. One of the main reasons adults should be allowed to carry a concealed gun is that it can limit crime. The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution states that American citizens should have the right to bear arms and this freedom will not be infringed. However, some exceptions arrive when dealing with the 2nd Amendment. Concealed weapon permits should not be issued to citizens with criminal records, mental disabilities, or people who have not passed a background check. As for the people who do meet these requirements, the right to carry a concealed weapon should not be contravened. A study shown by The Christian Science Monitor revealed that the number of concealed weapons holders who do kill innocent people, is only one percent of all gun related homicides (Should Adults Have the Right). One can realize through studies like this, that most concealed weapons holders are responsible law-abiding citizens who will not misuse their handguns or desire to harm others. Thus, responsible Americans that meet the requirements set forth should not be hindered from their right to carry a concealed weapon. Often people are shied away from obtaining a concealed weapons permit because society is slowly becoming more anti guns and they are afraid they will be treated unfairly. This is harmful to society and should not be the case. Thus it is imperative that all Americans support adults who carry concealed weapons because good citizens with guns are an extremely effective
