If this ban on a gun with no other purpose than to kill had been renewed, the lives of these innocent people may have been spared. There are many other reforms that were proposed but never passed. The Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act sought to give the U.S. attorney general the capability to preclude “known or suspected dangerous terrorists” from the purchase of explosives or guns. The Gun Show Background Check Act would have put an end to the “gun show loophole” as it sought to require gun show vendors to perform background checks on those clients. Senators in April of 2013 voted 54-46 against limiting the size of high-capacity ammunition magazines, 54-46 against the performing of universal background checks, and 60-40 against the manufacturing and sale of assault weapons. America invests a great amount of time and money to the prevention of death and disease, putting more funds to medical and health care than to education, food, clothes, automobiles, and housing. (Harwood 128) With the exceeding number of deaths due to guns, when will America decide it’s a good idea to regulate this national disease? The government can institute laws on when, where, and what kind of guns are sold to the public without infringing the individual right. The government can also restrict who can obtain a gun in some cases and require things such as background checks, permits, and training without this infringement, according to “Gun Control Reform: Should the United..”. “Protecting the right to keep and bear arms is not the same as forbidding all regulations on that right.” (Gun Control Reform: Should the United..) The Second Amendment allows for each person to defend themselves against anyone wishing to harm them. If America were to forbid the carrying of concealed weapons or the availability of a gun to people, it would be unconstitutional. This would take away the right of self-defense of the individual and infringe on his dignity, liberty, and quality of life.
