I have moved in Nassau County since September 2013. Nassau County is a very good place for children’s grow and development. Also it is a very quiet place to live. My whole family likes to live there. However, we still have some health issues in our community such as obesity, Diabetes Mellitus and so on.Obesity is defined as an increased body weight in relation to height, when compared to some standard of acceptable or desirable weight. It has become a global health issue. The worldwide prevalence of obesity has nearly doubled between 1980 and 2008. In, 2008 10% of men and 14% of women in the world were obese (BMI>30kg/m2), compared with 5% for men and 8% for women in 1980. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than one-third of adults and 17% of youths in the US are obese. The percentage of obesity is also high in Nassau County. According to the Department of Health (2008-2010), 16.1% of adults who were obese (BMI >30). Reducing obesity in children and adults has identified as one of two priorities within the larger priority of preventing chronic disease. Therefore, the prevalence of obesity is the focusing issue of health for Nassau County residents. Also, this phenomenon is rising. As a result, there is a need to continue monitoring and educating individuals from all walks of life, in order to minimize individuals at risk.
