Obesity In America Essay

There’s a strange epidemic going around now in time that has never occurred before. The United States is known to be admired by other countries for different aspects. However, one negative perspective on America is that there is a widespread obesity epidemic occurring. Not only are heavier people becoming unhealthy but skinnier people are too. In the 70’s, most cases when people were heavier was because of genetics. In now’s generation, anyone with any body shape or size can be unhealthy on the inside. This generation has the power to change the epidemic because of the vast knowledge on the reasoning behind it and and the various solutions proposed by multiple perspectives. A major change was women’s rights and lifestyles becoming monumentally different. Instead of staying home and cleaning the house and cooking meals for the family, most women now prefer the choice of going out to work. Also, some women may not even have a choice and are forced to work in order to provide food and housing for their children. This meant that lead to children no longer have a meal waiting for them at home after they arrive from school and have to turn to different alternatives. Food industries saw this as an opportunity to create convenient food to market to these working women. The women found the processed food practical for their children, unaware of the unhealthy factors in the non perishable foods. Fast food restaurants’ most popular costumer used to consist of young, single men because it was cheap and their lack of skill and will to cook for themselves. As years passed, children were also able to have extra spending unlike before. This money ended up going to buying fast food since mothers were busy at work or they simply had a bit of extra cash to splurge on a quick and cheap meal.
