The Neuman system’s model aligned with my nursing practice as well. This model is very applicable to many settings in nursing due to the multifaceted and holistic approach of this model. Other aspects of the model that can be appreciated are prevention as interventions and optimal wellness. As mentioned it is important that nurses address other factors affecting the patient, therefore if the nurse is able to identify stressors they can improve the environment for the patient and reduce possible stressors or response to stressors (Butts & Rich, 2018). The study mentioned was a good example of how stressors can be identified that can disrupt the system, but if interventions are put into place to help negotiate the stressors the effect of the stressors can be modified (Butts & Rich, 2018). I think this perspective on health allows more allowance for recovery in illness instead of focusing where the patient is and where they should be. The Neuman model really allowed me to see how the nursing metaparadigm concepts were interrelated and interdependent rather than single independent concepts (Neuman & Fawcett, 2011). For example, how a person interacts with their environment directs the nursing care that will be provided in order to meet the concept of health.
