It is the feeling of loneliness that drives us to become unlonely. To become unlonely, we must first accept our purpose in this world. The movie “The Matrix”, by Andy Wachowski is constructed around many philosophies; one of them is solipsism. At the beginning of the movie, Neo is alone in the matrix because everyone else is being controlled by code. He must accept he is the chosen one in order to achieve power and escape the matrix. He gains this power when he is trapped in a hallway with Agent Smith and hits a point of apotheosis. Neo uses solipsism to re-write the code and ultimately defeat the agents. Additionally, in the book A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by Khaled Hosseini, the main character Mariam seeks power when she is alone. Mariam grew up without her father and was married to a forty-year old man in her teenage years. She suffers a life of abuse from her husband, Rashid, and the local Taliban. The survival of our species relies on someone taking power and leading us. In The Matrix, Neo gets several advanced Kung-Fu programs installed into his system. Morpheus knows Neo is The One and therefore he will have to fight in order to prove it. To support this, Morpheus says “Come on! Stop trying to hit me and hit me!” This shows that Morpheus knows Neo will eventually become a greater threat in the radar of the agents and he will have to fight them sooner or later. The only way for Neo to survive the agents is to gain power. Another instance of desiring power for survival is in the novel Theories of Relativity by Barbara Haworth-Attard. The main character, Dylan, is an epiphanized teenager living alone in the streets. He faces many problems throughout the story such as death threats from a local pimp. Dylan’s only safe place is the library, where he often goes to learn about Einstein’s theory of relativity. He uses the theories to accept his place in the world and keep his life going. In this case, Dylan gained power from studying Einstein’s theory and used them to survive. Humans rely on power when faced with life-threatening
