Working at a facility or other businesses, whether one is a manager, supervisor, or an employee, we are all here to work as a team. A number of signs that shows workplace morale decreasing are lateness, absence, laziness, the quality of work that is being done in the facility has decreased and increase errors in patient’s appointment schedules and other paper work. To improve morale in UCF Community Health Center, I as the practice managers will require to have a pulse on the dynamics of the staff members and work on each and every problems that can cause day-to-day frustration. Before I can change the attitude of my staff members and uplift their spirits, I need to make sure that I have the qualities that a leader possess and I am executing those qualities. According to Hunter (2004), "Management is about the things we do: the planning, the budgeting, the organizing, the problem-solving, being in control, maintaining order, developing strategies, and a host of other things; management is what we do, leadership is who we are" (p. 32). Getting information directly from individuals who are experiencing poor morale can often be an important key to solve the problems. These are the things that a leader would do to make sure that their employees are happy and to let their employees know that they are important to them. Furthermore, my staff members will receive a sense of pride and worth that I am asking them for their input on how to fix all the negativity and issues in the facility. Another step I could take to reach my discouraged employees is to show concern by asking them how they are doing and anytime they want to come and talk to me, my doors are always open. This will let them know that I care about my employees and the facility. I would create goals to that will help my employees feel good about the job that they are doing and they will perform their duties more effectively. Another step I would take to encourage my employer is to offer recognition or reward to each and every worker’s based upon their efforts, by giving them performance awards, have their name mentioned at staff meetings, and create an employee bulletin board that has their name and the remarkable job that they are being recognized for.
