Allowing same-sex couples to marry protects their constitutional rights to equality. The constitution itself protects marriage rights by protecting citizens from unfair judgements. The Constitution of the United States says, “Nor [shall any State] deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws” (amend. 14, sec. 1). This proves that the government is not allowed to ban same-sex marriage because denies homosexuals the right of protection of the law. This protection ensures that every citizen has the right to choose who they marry. “Anyone who wants to get married has a constitutional right to do so” (Roberts 16). This was said by Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts during Obergefell vs Hodges case. It proves that marriage is a right, and America has protections that guarantee marriage
