To end World War II the United States had to bomb Japan. Japan had stated that they would not surrender and would fight till the last person was dead. The U.S. had two choice, invade or bomb Japan. President Truman had said that if they had invaded Japan, U.S. soldiers would have died in large numbers. This is not including the number of Japanese soldiers and civilians that would have died as well. The U.S. had an alternative plan and decided that they would drop an atomic bomb that would cripple Japan, but not wipe them off the map. The atomic bomb killed between 129,000 and 226,000 people (including the nuclear effects). Overall, Japan recovered from the bombing and did not suffer complete annihilation. The US made the correct choice because fewer people, both Japanese and American died, This ended the war quicker, and in the end Japan was not wiped off the map.
