Summary of the film
The Iron Giant is a story about a metal machine, The Iron Giant, that crashes off of a shore near the coast of Maine. As the Giant is getting the recognition that he is not out for evil, Kent is still going for the kill on him. He orders for a missile to destroy the Giant at its location. The problem was, the Giant’s location was where everyone else was located. Once realizing that, the Giant sacrificed himself to save the town and to crash into the missile that was launched at him. This was memorable because it was the last time we were able to see the Giant in once piece. It also had the significance of the sacrifice the Giant was willing to make to not only save Hogarth, but the rest of the town as well.
Commonalities between characters
The most noticeable commonalities between characters is through Hogarth and the Giant. This is due to not only Hogarth teaching the Giant his ways and values, but that they create a brotherly bound between the two of them. They also show commonalities by both being energetic and curious throughout the film, even if the difference between them is being a Giant compared to a human.

For the scarier scenes, the movie ended to be at night and provide dark shots of lighting. For the majority of the film, Bird incorporated plenty of saturated color and high key lighting. Because of this, it also provided a more upbeat feeling for the film as a whole when the scenes included that color. But, Bird made that pattern of when things would get serious, as the final pivotal scenes were in a setting where the sky was cloudy, thus using less saturated colors and increased soft light, as well as desaturated colors, instead.
Sound
Sound is used in the film to provide an extra level of meaning for the scenes. For example, in the opening scene a fisherman gets into an encounter with the Giant. In the background, there are heavy, deep musical sounds to show the emotion of fear in the fisherman. But, also in the scene it includes the sounds of the waves crashing as well as the thumping of the fisherman on his boat. This is a familiar pattern throughout the film, but the use of sound adds that extra layer of emotion for the viewer to get attached to the movie.
The film also included some sound bridges as well, were they played a small sample of music to transition into the next scene. This was a great usage of sound because it maintained the level of emotion the scene prior had, into the next
