The way that this film could be seen as a classic Hero’s Journey is the archetypes used throughout the film. Tristan, who is the main protagonist in the film is considered the hero because we follow his journey to find a star in the film. The star’s name is Yvaine and her archetype is the damsel in distress. Yvaine is the damsel in distress because Tristan has to save her several times throughout the film from the villains. Another archetype for Tristan is the uncrowned king. Tristan could be considered this because he is not aware that he has royal blood. Tristan starts off in his ordinary world where he works at a shoe store and tries to impress this girl he likes. Tristan's call to adventure is when the girl he likes says he can win her heart by going and fetching a star for her. Once Tristan finds the star he has many trials. One being that the star is reluctant to go with him, and as he soon finds out that he is not the only one that wants the star. Later in the story, Tristan returns to his new life as King of Stormhold, and being married to his true love Yvaine. You could easily consider this film a classic Hero’s Journey because it follows most or all of the Hero’s Journey
