A paper using American Psychological Association (APA) style contains four major sections: a title page, an abstract, the body of the paper, and a reference section. According to APA Style, your title page should contain the title of the paper, a running head, the authors name, a byline, the institutional affiliation, and an author’s note. The title of your paper should be specific in order to inform the readers about the main ideas and the relationships between the identified variables. When typing the title one must center the fully explanatory statement between the left and right margins and position it on the upper half of the page. Before taking Psychology, the only style I knew how to write my papers were in the Modern Language Association (MLA) format. Throughout high school, the purpose for writing was mainly to argue, analyze, and evaluate conducted research. However, learning how to write papers in APA style allows an individual to review previously written information about a research topic as well as report your own research. Having four main sections in your paper allows the reader to follow the entire development toward the research. Gaining the knowledge on how to inform others with only the things that needs to be said has the possibility to improve on how to clearly communicate one’s ideas. I am genuinely glad that I got the opportunity to research the sections of an American Psychological paper because not only are college students expected to know how to use either MLA or APA style when writing papers but it can be useful in the future. Being informed about knowing how to write in APA is necessary because the occupation that I am aiming for is nursing and I know that nursing uses APA style in multiple
