The Importance Of Shut Down Your Screen Week

There has been much discussion on whether our school should take part in “Shut Down Your Screen Week.” While contemplating if this is a good idea or not it is important to take into consideration all the pros and cons of the situation. No great decision is made without going through all of the deciding factors that go into deciding if we should or should not take part in this. First, we are going to go over the good things that technology has provided for us. “Because of cellphones and social media, those we depend on are more accessible today than at any point since we lived in small, village-like settlements.” (Hampton) In today’s society, people are constantly in need of getting ahold of each other. “It’s great to be able to chat and keep up with friends in different states and so easily. Social networking sites have also made it possible to make new friends from around the world.” (Hampton) People whom share the same interests may not always live close to each other. Also, not everyone has the pleasure of being able to travel to meet new people. For some people, the internet is their one way of meeting these people. With the development of technology, business men and women now have the luxury of not having to be trapped in the workplace all the time. “More broadly, cell phones and computers have transformed life. They let people leave their cubicles and work anywhere. They shrink distances and handle countless mundane tasks, freeing up time for more exciting pursuits.” (Richtel) Now that is is possible for people to still get work done outside of the office, they now have more time to spend with their …show more content…
Teachers use computers to type out lesson plans, write papers, research topics for discussion, and even grade papers. Of course, teachers would still be able to do all of those things without technology, it would just take more time. With the development of technology, students have had the privilege of getting their assignments done in a faster amount of time by doing it online instead of writing it on paper. With students typing their papers faster, that leaves more room for teachers to teach more. Our society is becoming more digital by the day. There is no way of escaping
