2.4 Islamic Work Ethics and Job Satisfaction
Islamic Work Ethics is defined as the “set of moral principles that distinguishes what is right from what is wrong in an Islamic context” (Beekun, 1997). Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Mohammad; who denoted hard work caused sins to be pardon is the foundation of Islamic Work Ethics” (Ali, 1995; RagabRizk, 2008). As the economies of Asian, Arab Muslim Countries flourished, the importance of Islamic Work Ethics become important. The Managers should know how his employees respond in different critical situations. In Islam, workers’ satisfaction is imperative. Yousef 2001 propounded that relationship between job satisfaction and Islamic work Ethics is pivotal to make strategies for explaining the factors that cause lowering of satisfaction level of employees in a work setup. The former studies supports that Islamic Work Ethics has a close relationship with job satisfaction (Vitell and Davis, 1990; Viswesvaran and Deshpande, 1996; Yousef, 2001; Koh and Boo, 2001; Rokhman 2010). Similarly Several academic Researchers (Blood, 1969; Bokemeir and Lacy, 1987; Fisher and Gitelson, 1983; Ali, 1987) have test the relationship between Islamic Work Ethics and Job satisfaction , the results indicates strong relationship between these two variables. People who have strong faith in Islamic values they are more committed to their job because they believe that their faith is already written by ALLAH pak so they are more satisfied by their Jobs than those who don’t have this faith. Nasr (1984) suggested that the IWE deserves serious investigation because Muslims are trying to attain this ideal situation. According to Mead (1998) organizations which are morally strong able to depict positive image in the community and can form a strong positive culture. Ethical organizations enjoys well-being of organization, assure welfare of stake holders and society (Barutcugil, 2004: Berrone al. 2007: Donker et al. 2008: Jalil et al. 2010: Mead, 1998). Ali (2005) stated that Islamic work ethics values can promote hard work, effort, competition, loyalty, transparency and morally responsible behavior. Jalil et al. (2010) says that Islamic work ethics positively affect organizational well-being, generates continuous development, increase satisfaction and performance ultimately creates good reputation of the business Jalil et al.
