Going way back to 223 years ago, Americans were granted protection under the second amendment of the constitution, which states; “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This amendment was ratified in 1791, giving every American present and future the right to bear arms. When this amendment passed, it was during a time when an everyday individual needed a gun to hunt. It was also during a time of uncertainly, the revolutionary war just ended, and the founding fathers believed that the right to bear arms would protect the citizens from the government. During this time the king of Great Brittan used his army to oppress the colonel people and raised taxes. These events led to the revolutionary war, and the new government wanted to put measures in place so that those events would never happen again, hence the 2nd amendment. However, the founding fathers had no idea what the modern gun would behold, they had no idea how powerful weapons would become. If they somehow had the foresight, the 2nd amendment might look a tad bit different
