Owning a gun in the United States is very common, and became almost a cultural standard. Whether it is for personal collection, for hunting, or for entertainment, there are many reasons why some people choose to own firearms. Shooting at targets, for instance, can have beneficial effects on people, as it can help them to enhance their focus and concentration. However, the recent terrible tragedy at Pulse nightclub in Orlando has plunged once again the country into mourning on June 12, and has brought some questions back on the table. Should personal gun ownership be legal? This issue has long been debated. While it is true that owning a firearm may to some extend be beneficial for people, it clearly raised some concerns as well. It is interesting to note that many unintentional fatal shootings are self-inflicted. Accidental gun deaths involving children are also a major issue in the United States. How many times we have heard in the news that a child had shot or killed himself/herself or someone else while playing with the loaded firearm of his/her parents during their absence. Some opponents seem to think that education about gun and gun safety is the key solution to prevent the number of accidental gun deaths, claiming that guns do not kill people, but people do. It is true that guns are machines, which means that nothing will happen, unless people pull the trigger. Nonetheless, prevention via education will help but not solve the problem. In fact, children are naturally inquisitive and impulsive, and even though it is better to gun-proof them, it will not prevent them from being captivated by them. Since they were young, they played games involving weapons, guns, war etc. Sometimes, they do not see the difference between a toy and a real firearm.
