The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins is a fictional story of Katniss Everdeen and how she overcomes the odds and wins the Hunger Games. Their see twelve districts in a nation called Panem and Katniss comes from district twelve. District twelve never wins the Hunger Games and is a poor district known for coal mining. The reaping is a day when one man and one woman is selected to represent their districts in the games. Katniss 's sister, Prim, turned the right age and her name was put her into the drawing for the first time this year. The woman selected for district twelve was Prim and Katniss volunteered on Prim 's spot. Katniss was the woman tribute for district twelve and Peeta was selected for the men. Once selected the tributes were taken to the Capitol for training to help them in the game. After the training is completed the tributes compete and try to impress individuals to sponsor them in the game. The sponsors help the tributes during the game if they need anything like medicine during the Hunger Games. Once in the arena Katniss and Peeta and the rest of the tributes for the other districts fight to the death and the last one standing is showered with plentiful food, money, and respect. The winner 's district also gets certain extras to help the district. Katniss and Peeta won the 74th annual hunger games because they both attempted to commit suicide.
