To Abolish or Not that is the Question In recent discussions of the death penalty, a controversial issue has been if capital punishment should be abolished or not. On the one hand, some argue that the death penalty is too costly. On the other hand, however, others argue that capital punishment does deter crime. From this perspective, the death penalty could be a useful tool. In my own view I have mixed feelings. I agree that the death penalty has its advantages, but Its also a punishment that makes no room for mistakes. Abolishing or not abolishing the death penalty is a very sensitive question because the life of many criminals hangs in the balance. The meaning life without parole can be referred as a life without hope, which means spending the rest of their lives behind bars. Many argue that the death penalty can be cruel but life without parole is pretty much death by incarceration, which is more beneficial to society and the economy. Criminals that are sentenced to life in prison without the possibility without parole “civil death” because their freedom in civil society has come to an end. The criminals are left to suffer in their cell, how punishment for a crime should be.
