Breastfeeding can be a difficult journey for both mom and baby, but according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, experts say there are several benefits why mothers should try harder to enforce breastfeed. Babies should be breastfed for at least the first six months. Breast milk contains antibodies that help babies fight off viruses and bacteria. Infants are designed to get food from their mothers, it 's one of the most wonderful gifts a mom can give to her baby. For a new mom, there are alway different ways she can get help and guidance throughout her pregnancy about breastfeeding and how essential it is for both mom and her newborn. The first trimester is the best time for a mom to begin thinking about how she would feed her baby. She should understand all the good benefits breastfeeding has for both mom and the baby. According to our text (p. 107), some of the benefits for both babies and mom are; less likely to contract illness such as diarrhea, respiratory infections, otitis media and staphylococcal, bacterial and urinary tract infections.
