Walking around the mall, you hear a screaming baby. You see mother sit on a bench with her child and see her begin to lift up her shirt. What are you thinking? Are you disgusted? Do you just not care? How about you’re a\happy for a mom who is doing what she is supposed to be doing for a hungry infant, regarding the negative attention, rude looks, and snarky comments that she and you both know are about to come. Mothers almost everywhere are discriminated against for doing their job. Breastfeeding is normal, it shouldn’t be bothersome to anyone.
Breastfeeding is beneficial for not only the infant, but the mother as well. According to Ruth A. Lawrence, Professor of Pediatrics and OB-GYN at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, “The incidences of pneumonia, colds and viruses are reduced among breastfed babies”(“20 Breastfeeding Benefits”). Breastfed children will have better cognitive abilities, neater behavior, fewer allergic reactions and a better immune system.
