Besides terrorism, biological warfare is a serious threat to America. Biological agents used as weapons significantly affect a nation’s economy, social and political standing. Anthrax is one of the most common biological agents used as a weapon by terrorist groups and on the American population. In this paper, I summarize the article “Organizational Versus Individual Attribution: A Case Study of Jemaah Islamiyah and the Anthrax Plot”. Additionally, I offer information about the capability, intent, vulnerability, and consequences of anthrax. Although the authors’ was committed to focusing on JI’s involvement in the anthrax plot, the authors did not specify the group’s intent. It seems as though Al Qaeda was using JI for their interest and exposure. However, Al Qaeda’s intent was to develop weapons of mass destruction in order to attack vulnerabilities in America’s infrastructure and economy (Joosse & Milward, 2014). Using $5,000 funded by Al Qaeda, Yazid Sufaat was able to acquire another laboratory to continue his goal of cultivating anthrax for several months (Joosse & Milward, 2014). However, the armed forces discovered and seized Suffat’s lab, abruptly ending his progress towards the anthrax plot on critical infrastructure in America.
Vulnerabilities and Consequences. Vulnerabilities can be extensive when biological agents are involved, and it can lead to many consequences. The authors do not provide details about possible vulnerabilities and consequences, because of the failed attempt by Yazid Sufaat.
