Lately, with the high rise of gun violence and mass shootings in the United States gun control, gun laws, and the Second Amendment have been a prevalent controversial topic amongst many. The Second amendment word for word states: A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The Second Amendment has been interpreted in many different ways, but it serves one specific purpose. If you read the federalist papers, you will understand the thought process of our founding fathers as they wrote the constitution bill of rights. With regards to the Second Amendment, the tyranny of Europe that they escaped was fresh in their minds. The European powers disarmed the citizens so that way they could control them better. So our founders did not right the Second Amendment so people could hunt and target shoot they included the Second Amendment in the bill of rights to insure the people could defend themselves, and they even specifically mention forming militias. According to the federalist papers the protection afforded by the second amendment is not against thieves and murders (although that is an extra benefit) the protection is afforded against a future tyrannical government.
History is ripe with examples of tyrannical governments running roughshod and murdering their own people which they previously disarmed. Americans would be wise to understand the reason the Second Amendment…
