In the 21st century, technology must be seamlessly integrated into all aspects of education in order for students to succeed in the new, high-tech world. The lead and transform diagnostic tool, created by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), offers a method of analyzing a district’s current state of technology integration. Reviewing the results of the diagnostic survey can allow for the formation of personalized goals, development plans, and technology implementation strategies. The sum total of these new directives should serve to create a system for full integration of technology into every part of the educational experience. Results of the ISTE lead and transform diagnostic tool for Hamtramck’s Early Childhood Center (ECC) show a need for great improvement when it comes to technology integration (see Appendix A for results). Figure 1 is an accurate depiction of how the ECC is only in the beginning stages of technology planning. While the school performs poorly in several categories, plans for improvement will focus on the major contributors to integration and success. Providing an effective, technology-based educational experience to students requires skilled personnel, a student-centered approach to learning, appropriate assessment methods, and a technology-infused curriculum framework.
