Successful and Effective Teamwork During my employment at Verification’s Inc.; which was a third-party background screening company, as a Department Supervisor, I acquired valuable information on what it takes to make teamwork successful. Specifically, skills that are essential for team members to achieve success and receive a bonus payout. J.C. Penney retail store founder, James Cash Penney, stated "the best teamwork comes from men who are working independently toward one goal in unison." Team members should succeed when setting team goals when they are informed, involved, and intrigued. Supervisors should inform team members and communicate expectations. As a supervisor, it was my responsibility to ensure that my team of twenty-eight specialists knew the stats and facts of our workflow. It was our responsibility as the Quality Department to ensure that the client’s expectations of timeliness and accuracy were met and exceeded. We accomplished this via e-mail progress updates three times a day. As well as stopping by their desk to confirm instructional updates and individual performance. With the distractions of e-mails and You Tube, it is easy to see how employees can have a limited attention span to their work. Yet keeping them involved can be an entertaining process. Supervisors can incorporate employees’ production statistics alongside games such as Bingo and Poker or television shows such as Survivor and The Biggest Loser. Typically, an employee already has a solution to a problem before it is brought to the supervisor’s attention. Supervisors can keep involvement simply by asking employees’ opinions on a problem.
