I started playing basketball at a young age and being in that team environment all my life, you learn real quick the value of teamwork. As a sophomore, I had to opportunity to get lots of playing time in varsity games and being a young player on the team, getting big playing time, I felt I had to take the leadership role in my sophomore class. Now that I am a senior on the team, I feel more of that weight on my shoulders. Being on the court most of the time, I feel it’s part of my duty, on and off the court, to be a leader for the girls. Keeping them serious in practice to just being someone they look up to when they need guidance, I feel those situations is what really taught me the leadership qualities. I’ve also inherited the leadership quality my senior year when I was chosen to be the student section leader. With this role I was in charge of keeping the students hype and into the games, coming up with themes for the students to have fun with, and help come up with and lead the pep rallies. Previously I talked about playing sports at a young age taught me teamwork, but that also has taught me sportsmanship and being in the sports atmosphere that’s really made me value sportsmanship. You just let it go in one ear and out the other and stay positive towards them. In my latest basketball game, we played a team we’ve had beef with for a long, long time and we had some issues with those girls on and off the court

My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…

From the start of my four year commitment to football and marching band I saw leadership all around me. My first summer of football my freshman year the seniors were prime examples of leadership. They were right there to correct form on our lifts, blocks, and set the overall example of what it meant to be a Mead football player. Later that summer I threw in marching band camp to my agenda. The drum major, my sister, lead the band with kept the entire band in order, and worked with us until our sets were flawless.…

Imagine a high school athlete, head spinning from tests and quizzes and homework grades, mind swimming with due dates and deadlines, trying not only to balance the hardships high school offers but also juggling his passion of football. Imagine after all his hard work, one of his grades slipped and now he is forced to cut his sport. Do students really deserve this kind of pressure? That is why the no pass, no play rule is a ridiculous rule to follow, since not only does this add extra stress to an average person's head, this rule also completely ignores the fact that students who have learning disabilities and use sports as an escape from their struggles are stripped away of their passion. Sports also has many benefits that not even school can…

Most adults’ favorite memories are from their past years participating in sporting events throughout their high school careers. They may not have realized it at the time, but they created memories and friendships to last a lifetime. High school athletes of future generations could not have the opportunity to invent vivid, unforgettable memories and such close relationships as our older generations had the chance to do. Not only could our future students miss out on memories and fun, but they could lack the life skills which athletes gain from participating in sports. High schools should continue to offer sports to provide students with leadership skills, opportunities for community involvement, and college scholarships to prepare for a bright,…

Participating in team sports does help to build character. In the article, “Team Sport Build Character” by JuniorC, it shows great examples and reasons of why team sports build up teamwork and trust that everybody needs in the world. My junior year I was selected as a captain for the girls varsity basketball team. It was an honor to be selected especially because I am not always looked at as a typical leader because of my quiet nature. Throughout the season I learned that being a leader is not always easy. Of course while winning or having an easy practice, anyone could be a leader, but it is the truly grueling days when people look to their leaders most for support. Since I am not the most outspoken person in the world I had to find different ways to lead the team through these tough times.…
