Squalamine Research Paper

Decent Essays
In 1992, Michael Zasloff discovered Squalamine. The molecular compound can be found in dogfish sharks. The molecule inhibits growth of blood cells which possibly could stop cancerous cells from multiplying. It is positively charged, and upon entrance to the cell it sticks to the inner membrane of the cell, which is negatively charged. This allows positive charged proteins to fall and break off. Without those cells that break off, the virus cannot reproduce. Squalamine is very unique to the dogfish shark allowing the shark to rarely get cancer. Squalamine can help cure Hepatitis B and D and dengue fever. Currently Squalamine can fight against six diseases, but there is a level of toxicity which researchers have discovered (National Geographic).

I chose to use this recipe for “Hasty Pudding” because during the colonial times there was a lot of work to be done. Most mornings, daily chores that needed to be tended to would be completed prior to eating breakfast. So, with limited time in the morning, a fast pudding would be the best option. When I looked for this recipe, I liked it because it claims to still taste the same, although it does change the cook time and a couple ingredients. Originally, this pudding was referred to as “Indian Pudding.”…
